Utility Survey, Taza Electrical Station

The operator of the Taza electrical station in Kirkuk needed to know what was buried across the site before work could begin: the position and extent of underground pipes and cables.

Five specific areas were scanned using two independent methods. An ImpulseRadar PinPoint GPR system covered each area, and a Radiodetection RD8200 electromagnetic locator was run over the same ground. Using both matters here — the locator traces conductive services quickly and confidently, while the radar picks up the non-conductive ones, plastic pipe and ducting, that a locator alone cannot see.

Every result was georeferenced with a GNSS receiver and a total station, so the findings exist as survey-grade coordinates rather than as paint on the ground. That is what allows them to be carried straight into the client’s own drawings and used again on the next phase of work.

Surveying inside an energised substation puts a premium on knowing exactly where to dig. An unexpected strike there is not a delay, it is an outage.
